Well, until a few seconds after I took this shot, when a huge wave totally drenched us and we fled back to the car to get warm and dry. The fisherman didn’t seem to mind…

‘Fisherman’s Beach’ at Palmachim was saved in 2010 from development after a grassroots campaign succeeded in stopping developers from building 350-room holiday village on the picturesque spot. has fewer than 200 kilometers of beach along the Mediterranean. Nearly 50 of them are closed off by the army, and another 50 are city-run with built-up properties somewhat off the coast. Only 40 are considered to be open beaches with no homes, hotels or other structures behind them – most of these in central .

National Geographic 2011 Photo Contest Winner

Shikhei Goh’s photograph titled ‘Splashing’ of a bracing itself against the rain won the grand prize in the 2011 National Geographic Contest. Over 20,000 entries were submitted from over 130 countries but Shikhei’s image bested all comers. Said Shikei, “This photo was taken when I was taking photos of other insects, as I normally did during photo hunting. I wasn’t actually aware of this dragonfly since I was occupied with other objects. When I was about to take a picture of it, it suddenly rained, but the lighting was just superb. I decided to take the shot regardless of the rain. The result caused me to be overjoyed, and I hope it pleases viewers.”

This is a self-portrait of my . I saw this in a National Geographic and was amazed. Little did I know such beauty was only a couple of hours from my home. After a rainy drive, we arrived at Stephens Gap in NE just as the clouds cleared. The cave was incredible both inside and out. The cool moist air and beautiful rays of light made it feel surreal. To cap it all off, she said yes! To capture this self portrait I used a wireless remote in combination with a shutter delay setting.
