The General Sherman is a giant sequoia located in the Giant Forest of Sequoia National Park in Tulare County, . By volume, it is the known living single stem tree on Earth. With a height of 83.8 metres (275 ft), a diameter of 7.7 metres (25 ft), an estimated bole (trunk) volume of 1,487 cubic metres (52,513 cu ft), and an estimated age of 2,300 – 2,700 years.

In 1879 this tree was named after American Civil War general, William Tecumseh Sherman, by naturalist James Wolverton, who had served as a lieutenant in the 9th Indiana Cavalry under Sherman. In 1931, following comparisons with the nearby General Grant tree, General Sherman was identified as the largest tree in the . One result of this process was that wood volume became widely accepted as the standard for establishing and comparing the size of different trees. [Source]

The Keukenhof is the ’s which is located near Lisse in the and it opened to visitors today. Every year, workers at the Keukenhof plant seven million flower bulbs in the which sprout into massive fields of blooms which dot the countryside. The photo below of the Keukenhof was taken by a remote-controlled Octocopter at nearly half a mile over the . The is open for visitors until May 20, 2012.

World Largest Mountain Carving: Crazy Horse Memorial

The Crazy Horse is the craving in the Black Hills of South Dakota, US. The Crazy Horse, an Oglala Lakota warrior, riding a horse and pointing into the distance was commissioned by Lakota Chief Henry Standing Bear to sculptor Korczak Ziólkowski. The work was started in 1948 and has been continued by Korczak family since his death in 1982.

When completed the Crazy Horse mountain will be 641 feet long by 563 feet high. It may become the world’s largest , as well as the first non-religious statue to hold this record since 1967.
